If you are not familiar with the term, the Internet of Things refers to a dramatic development in the internet’s function: the fact that, even more than among people, it now enables communication among physical objects. By 2015, according to my own firm’s projections, not only will 75 percent of the world’s population have access to the internet. So will some six billion devices. The fact that there will be a global system of interconnected computer networks, sensors, actuators, and devices all using the internet protocol holds so much potential to change our lives that it is often referred to as the internet’s next generation.
For managers, this development creates challenges both long-term and urgent. They need to envision the valuable new offerings that become possible when the physical world is merged with the virtual world and potentially every physical object can be both intelligent and networked. And, starting now, they must create the organizations and web-based business models that can turn these ideas into reality.  READ REST OF STORY

The article explains that the “Internet of Things” is the Internet’s function in today’s society. With an estimated 75% of the world’s population having access to the internet but that it now enables communication among physical objects. Some estimated six billion devices have access to communicate through the internet. It is no surprise that this is being called the next generation of the Internet when you think of how much it has already changed our lives, not to mention the endless possibilities of what’s to come. We have access to unlimited knowledge not to mention the ability to not only know and see what is going on across the world but to directly communicate with people living in different countries. The Internet has impacted every aspect of our lives, and now that physical objects are all interconnected through the Internet it allows tasks to be accomplished faster and more efficiently. Now there is the ultimate ease to sharing with things such as iCloud, my computer is synced to my phone. When I take a picture on my phone it is automatically on my computer I don’t need to waste time transferring them over. Or if I’m listening to music on my phone I click a button and it is playing through my Apple TV. Even now the internet is a huge asset in the health industry with products such as Fitbit wristband that syncs to my phone and my computer to track my steps for the day, my heart rate, not to mention my sleep patterns. It even tells me how many minutes during the night I was restless, what time I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and how long it took me to get back to sleep. This is just one example the Internet allows for a very large world to all be interconnected and easily accessed. I can turn my thermostat at home on when on the other side of the city so that I’m coming home to a warm house. These are only a few examples of what is now capable because of the internet the potential opportunities are endless and I have no doubt in my mind that with the next generation of the internet will come astonishing possibilities.

The internet of things denotes to the developments in the technological world where there are possibilities of communication between a varieties of objects. In the foreseen future, every system is predicted to be interconnected via networks, the many devices in the world, sensors, computers, phones…etc. Those using these networks will face a big change in their lives as most technology will affect the everyday lives of human beings. The Internet of Things is very important because it allows us to commit to and connect to things we hadn’t thought about a few years back. At first, it wasn’t thought of a very bright or helpful idea, but slowly everything started to involve the internet of things, and now if we look, we are helpless without them. Not only does the internet of things creates efficiency it also increases the usage of certain objects and expands there proficiency. Currently, it is estimated that the world population has exceeded 7 billion. In average, the minute a baby is born, technology is used to learn about the baby, as it grows older it consistently uses technology through every day. Even in their old age, technology is used. The current generation is the only generation that is slowly rising with technology and has seen also the changes of internet from when it was a full blown desktop that was very big and took up half a room to the small and thin smartphones we tend to carry around everywhere we tend to go. The internet of things is something that we have grown into using, and we are so attached as human beings now that we want to consistently learn more information about the internet of things.

The term “Internet of Things” refers to the internet’s capability to enable communication among physical objects. This means that devices can be all interconnected through the Internet. It is important because it allows tasks to be completed faster and more efficiently. Before, we had to transfer or copy our files between devices in order to have access to them on all of our devices. Now, there are file hosting services such as Dropbox and Google Drive where we can upload our files and have it available in every device that we own without the hassle of having to copy them into each device. In a way, the “Internet of Things” allows us to make less mistakes. We do not have to worry about forgetting to transfer our files over because we have access to it through the Internet.

I would say that the biggest example of this would be the technology in smartphones. Today, they advertise smartphones as a means of having control over our lives. Wearable technologies such as the Fitbit and Jawbone are synced to our smartphones which let us know how we can achieve our fitness goals or if we achieved our fitness goal. We can also our smartphones as a remote control for our TV. For iOs devices, there is an app called “Mobile Mouse” which transforms our devices into a wireless mouse or a keyboard. There are also “smart” light bulbs that we can turn on or off or even change its colours using our smartphones. The “Internet of Things” allow us to control a lot of things without having to manage a lot of things.

The internet of things is about how internet technologies will become more and more merged with physical things and how the current separate business models of products vs services will become merged. I enjoyed author’s analogy of this predicted merging of ‘Old’ and new economies to that of the Milk way and the Andromeda galaxies. Mr. Ferber describes the impending transformation in the market quite aptly when he says, “In the dance around new centers of gravity, new solar systems of partnership will be formed. The question for you is: in this new cyber-physical galaxy, will your company become a new sun, a planet, a minor moon — or be reduced to stardust?”

I have heard it said that the internet as we experience it today, is just in its infancy. It’s at the tip of its potential and that it will truly transform or lives in ways we cannot yet even imagine. I imagine that the Internet of Things is just one way in which that transformation will be exhibited. The possibilities seem truly exciting and sometimes I find myself wishing I was a little younger so that I could potentially witness some of the great revolutions that will emerge. I mean when I consider that when I grew up when we got our first television that was a big deal in our family. Now my kid is growing up using an Ipad (which is in essence a supercomputer at her fingertips). Soon smart tvs, smart watches, smart fridges and stoves and even smart cars will become ubiquitous and essential parts of our lives such that we’ll soon forget a time before them. I suppose the next truly great leap is when artificial intelligence becomes part of our everyday lives in significant way.

I find it very amazing and scary that the internet and information technology has totally taken over our lives and nothing these days can’t be done with an internet connection. My grand kids are aged 10 and under, yet they know so much more than I do when it comes to accessing the amount of things, apps, and such that can be downloaded to my phone. the kids these days are so comfortable with using apps and social media to get around. Im aging myself when I say that what the kids can do and are capable of doing with technology is pretty interesting. Back in my day only people who were well off were able to buy computers and coming from a reserve the connection to the internet was pretty sad, it took for ever to download anything with dial up access

What is the Internet of Things? It is the concept that referrers to the development of the functions of the internet and how this enables communication between physical objects. Why is this important? This concept of internet of things is important due to the rise of popularity of smart mobile devices and increased usage of the internet through many different portable devices, such as ipods, mp3 players, televisions, laptops, tablets and cellphones. Through these portable devices, people can be connected through the internet. For example a cellphone user can contact another cellphone user or even tablet device users that live on the other side of the planet. This can be accomplished through specific applications that utilize the internet. In the past if one person wanted to contact someone that was on the other side of the planet, they would have to go through their telephone provider and accrue a high service fee. It is important for business to fully utilize this new trend of technology to maximize profits and efficacy. Companies can accomplish this through a creation of an online webpage that is compatible with mobile devices and portable devices such as tablets and ipods. With this mobile website consumers that are on the go will have an easy way to access the company’s information of their products, services and their basic information. Since the usage of smart phones and the internet has increased, it is important for consumers and companies to fully understand the proper usages and the ways this technology can connect people.

In this article, the internet of thing is identified to as the internets next generation. As explained, the internet of things is able to connect the virtual world with the physical world. This allows us to then, for example, use our smart phones (virtual world) when we are away at work to turn on the fan or close the blinds at home (physical world). This is done by simply clicking a button on your phone. Not only can this be used for personal purposes, it can also be used for a number of different reasons including in an industry, a city, or to maintain a sustainable environment. As the internet of thing continues to expand, I am excited to see what is to come in the future!

The internet of things is referring to internet being present in most or all physical objects. When most people think about the internet they only think about how we can use it to look up information, this article expands on that and talks about the internet being used to let a computer communicate with a day to day object such as a watch. If businesses can get multiple objects communicating or working together to make our lives easier and have access to a larger global market. As their is already over six billion devices connected to the internet it only makes sense to keep adding new devices that can work together with others to improve our quality of life. In my life I’ve already seen so many new devices start to get used such as smartphones and tablets and they have had a very positive impact on our lives. I can now do an assignment anywhere that there is internet if I have a laptop or tablet with me, I can sent a message to a friend across the country for free, I can get an entire university degree online, the possibilities are endless. I look forward to advances in technology and making our lives easier and the services businesses provide even better. The next decade or two will be very exciting seeing what new innovations and technologies are available to us all. I can no longer imagine a world where we don’t have access to the internet and all information isn’t readily available to me.

The big internet of things refers to the dramatic development in the internet’s function, it is how every day, physical objects have connectivity to the world. This important to business because they need to create ways that they could join the physical world to the virtual world. This is important because the big internet of things bring business partnership amongst companies globally or companies that have never had a chance to work with each other. It creates more competition in the market place however, in the virtual world. The internet of things I believe opens a lot more numerous opportunities that never existed. It makes this world more internationally connected. I think this is a great innovative idea that will make consumers even more drastically simple, since nowadays you need the internet for literally everything. The percent of online shoppers have increased overtime. This however, comes as a cost I believe there will be no security anymore. Producers have every bit of information on customers and create to the loss of privacy. I believe that as time goes on people wouldn’t even need to visit stores anymore, you would be able to order a product online and a virtually get it that same day. This might lead to the loss of job to retail side of it and might be detrimental to people that once had jobs.

“The internet of things” refers to an incredible improvement in the function of internet by communication among physical objects. It is important because the big amount of people have access internet. For companies, it is the time to change their business direction to the internet. There is a good example that why they should do that. Ten years ago, shopping means to go out, go into an actual physical store to choose and pick the products your want, and people used to it, but now, if you ask a question about where do you usually shopping. most of people will say the internet. people like it not only how convenient it is, but also they have already used to it. It became a habit for most of people. Thus, to be a successful company, it is better to change their old strategy to the internet.
I read a news about the internet effect in China. A famous brand called “LINING” have closed more than 1800 physical store by shopping in the internet. In the next 3-5 years, 80% of book store will close, and 30% of clothes store, shoes store will close. In the future, physical store will be a place that people can try and test the product, and the internet is the place that people buy their products. Same with any other countries in the world, companies start to transfer form physical store to the internet. it will be the main trend even now. with the development of the technology, internet will have more impact on our life.

“The internet of Things” refers to the movement of physical things having network capabilities – going online. It’s a very important movement for businesses to focus on in order to remain competitive in a world where everyone wants to stay connected to one another and soon, their things as well. Well some low-hanging fruit in this movement has already made its way into consumer hands ( Wearable technologies, printers, e-readers, phones, TVs), there is a whole new era of value being added to every day products that businesses have to adapt to their current products and value offered.
One of the major market challenges I think companies are going to have to face is making sure that companies who are tech giants don’t steal the spotlight from their products before they are able to adapt. Think of Oakley sunglasses when they came out with the built in headphones and mp3 player; you would expect brand to try and move forward into networking capabilities. Instead they dropped the tech gadgets and let Google try their hand at online glasses.
Businesses will really have to give in to the importance of online networks, up-and-coming technologies, and having a workforce that is capable to handle these constant pushes forward.
I think “the internet of things” is an interesting way to look at how some products have adopted networking capabilities; but it also seems pretty dramatized. Sometimes change takes much longer than we expect, no matter how much better it could be or what the costs of staying behind are.

As described in the article, internet is very important that it has become easier to access any information. It is a way faster to get information and quicker to get whatever one is looking for without wasting hours searching for the information. It is a great revolution that has brought the world together. Indeed, with the internet, the world becomes “the global village” as McLuhan once put it. As internet is nowadays moved beyond connecting human to human to connecting the “physical object” to “physical object”, I can’t imagine what will happen in some five decades to come.

As stated in the article, the term “internet of things” refers to a dramatic development in the internet’s function among psychical objects. In particular, it is a giant network that enables products or devices to communicate with each other. It describes a future where every day physical object will be able to communicate and identify themselves to other devices, which includes everything from cellphones, TVs, cars, lamps, coffeemakers, printers, washing machines and headphones. With the increased use of technology, the internet of things would potentially have great impact on how we live and work. Not only would it allows us to use and do things effectively and efficiently, but also create a world where just about anything can be connected and communicated intelligently and proficiently. It could mean a world where your alarm clock wakes you up at 5 a.m. and automatically notifies your coffee maker to start brewing your coffee or your toasting machine to start toasting you a bread, even make your closet select you outfit based on weather or occasion.
Although, the internet of things would certainly open doors to virtually endless opportunities, connections and communications, it would be detrimental in regards to privacy and security. While we still criticize marketing firms for using our information just to micro target their selling effort; the interconnected relationship that the internet of things would create between physical objects could give virtually anyone, firms and government, especially malicious people an opportunity to hack other people’s private information or use the technology for their own benefit.

The Internet of Things is very important because it allows us to do things that were not imaginable few years ago and even before that when first internet was invented. Many people thought it was not a good idea and look now, it’s everywhere we go. It creates efficiency on many levels. It also creates value for many products and really expands their use to maximum and perhaps go beyond the capabilities of the product. Having to reach six billion devices that will connect to the internet by 2015 is really a giant leap in recent years. Internet provides any information at any given time any where in the world to the people that need it. Internet is like a “drug” where people get hooked on it pretty easily and becomes the part of their life. Sure there are side effects to it, but there are lots of advantages to what internet can bring. It’s never easy to go back yo simple life. People want products that are compatible with internet and also their mobile device like smart watch (apple watch, Samsung gear, fit bracelets, etc), which makes life so much easier than before. Wanting everything right at your fingertips and not having to make effort into going anywhere.

The Internet of Things refers to “the dramatic change in the internet’s function development and function and how everything is able to communicate with itself. It’s a new age in business and everything is now seemingly connected to the internet and somehow connected and able to communicate. I see this as a good thing that makes things easier for everyone. It presents some challenges for managers it’s hard to argue that the Internet of Things does not improve things for managers and makes things easier. Using all the devices at their disposal helps give managers a competitive advantage. For the consumer it’s definitely beneficial by simply saving time and also by the added element of convenience. Having IP enabled televisions and appliances provides great convenience. Another great example is having devices that serve multiple purposes such as an iPhone. You now don’t need to carry around a cassette player and have a phone. You can have both of those in an iPhone and also have the capability of 20 other devices such a calculator, flashlight, camera, calendar, clock and a whole list of other things that used to be separate devices that could fill an entire house. The one problem that can arise with having everything connected and internet capability is that when these things break and don’t function quite like you would like them to or even break, they create a great deal of frustration and may be unfix able without the help of a professional.. Even though that is a negative the other benefits provided for sure outweigh the negatives.

Internet has narrowed the distance between people and people, it narrowed the world distance. As this article mentioned that technology with the internet connection are growing amazing fast causing others to either go the same direction. Currently, the Internet has entered people’s lives and even has become an integral part of the life. For example, for developed countries, Wi-Fi coverage is part of a city’s development. Internet can provide information anytime, anywhere what people need. The development of information technology also represents a country’s strength.
The “Internet of things” cannot be simply defined as computer any more, they should include all of the devices which can access to the Internet such as your smart phone, smart bracelet, even your smart alarm clock. Everything is “smart” when it connect with the Internet. However, they don’t really become “smart”. Indeed, the Internet helps us to manage all of those stuffs in one platform, and those stuffs help us to manage our life in a better way. The convenience and the unsubstitutability brought from those devices show the importance of those “Internet of things”. If we create a new platform to make everything online and manage them, that’s the Globalization 2.0, while we integrate the entire control terminal into one smart phone, that’s Globalization 3.0. Globalization is just everywhere!

The internet of things as stated in the article is the dramatic development that not only allows communication between people but also allows communication between objects. It is important because it combines Old Economy and New Economy. I believe that it is also important for everyone to educate themselves of the happenings and developments of the internet of things because most tasks that were done by manual labour are now being serviced through the internet. For example, nowadays it is easy to find self serve tills in supermarkets. You are able to check out your own items without needing a sales associate’s help. At convenient stores like 7- Eleven, you can slide your coffee cup under the coffee dispenser and pour yourself a cup without doing the manual labour of lifting the kettle and pouring.
The internet became popular and widely available in the early 2000. 15 years later we have about six billion devices have assess to internet. Imagine how many more devices will have access to the internet in another two decades!

This article is well constructed and summarized how the internet become important in today’s life. From this article, I have known that internet has become a really important thing not only to communicate around the world but also make our life more and more convenience. I am really surprised to know from the article that 75 percent of the world’s population will have access to the internet in 2015 and about six billion devices will connect to the internet. That is a huge numbers of people. We also can see from the article that internet has become a really important part of our daily life and work. As an international student, I know how internet important to me. I can use internet to talk to my family members in China which is really convenient. I can booking a hotel in other countries by just clicking a few buttons. I cannot imagine how the life will be without the internet.
In the article, they describe the internet as an industry which I think is really appropriate. The internet today is like a huge factory. It is provide productions or service to humans. Also many people making money from it. For example, there are many shopping website which may called e-mall like eBay. Things on eBay are from all around world and sell to every parts in the world. People from different parts of the world using internet trading and selling.
The internet make the world smaller and smaller. I think the internet will make our life more convenience in the future.

As stated in the article, the “internet of things” is the development in Internet function among physical objects. It is not the Internet that people use, it is the Internet that products we buy use to communicate with each other. The Internet of Things is important because it allows us to use and do things that we have never been able to do before. It creates efficiency and value for many products and allows them to be capable of much more. The majority of market technologies I see around me that are a part of the Internet of Things would have to do with smartphones and all of their capabilities. ‘Everyone’ has a smartphone and now they can communicate with a majority of other electronics. People can control their TVs with their phones, their security systems, their clocks, their cars, their cameras, their computers, their printers, etc. All of these objects can connect to the Internet so that people can more easily and efficiently access them from different places at different times. In the case video in class, even refrigerators can connect to the Internet. I feel that eventually, everything with electronic function will be able to connect to the Internet of Things.

I find it really interesting how fast the internet has and is changing our lives. 15-20 years ago, many people claimed that the internet was just a fad and that it would die out in a couple years. Now we are talking about the internet of things, not humans using the internet but physical objects using it to communicate to make our lives easier. Probably (I don’t know, this is just a guess) in 5 – 10 years our homes will be completely automated. Heating, air conditioning, lights, locks, doors, plumbing, stoves and other appliances will be able to be controlled by an app on your phone, or voice commands, or timers. I find it fairly monumental that something can be created that is simpler and more practical to use then a light switch. We are moving to an age that almost every tool, appliance and moving part will be able to be controlled anywhere in the world with an internet connection. That’s pretty crazy.
