If you are not familiar with the term, the Internet of Things refers to a dramatic development in the internet’s function: the fact that, even more than among people, it now enables communication among physical objects. By 2015, according to my own firm’s projections, not only will 75 percent of the world’s population have access to the internet. So will some six billion devices. The fact that there will be a global system of interconnected computer networks, sensors, actuators, and devices all using the internet protocol holds so much potential to change our lives that it is often referred to as the internet’s next generation.
For managers, this development creates challenges both long-term and urgent. They need to envision the valuable new offerings that become possible when the physical world is merged with the virtual world and potentially every physical object can be both intelligent and networked. And, starting now, they must create the organizations and web-based business models that can turn these ideas into reality.  READ REST OF STORY

The Internet of Things consists of human and non-human objects using the Internet to communicate with a multitude of systems communicating with systems. It seems that in this day and age, everything is connected to the Internet. The Internet of Things is becoming more and more important as technologies advance, as it assists in the innovation and development of goods and services, while keeping costs relatively low. Let’s look at the health system for example. Before the Internet, if you had a specialist appointment in Calgary, your medical records would have to be transferred to the office in Calgary, usually by courier, weeks prior to your appointment. This would then provide the specialist ample time to review your records and in turn properly assess you at the time of your visit. Now, with the Internet, the specialist has your records before you even leave your family doctors office. We can also look at the publishing industry and how the Internet has impacted the way the traditional print is adapting to the world-wide-web. Instead of going to a local newspaper stand, the consumer can purchase an online subscription to their favourite newspaper, whether it be local or otherwise, and have it readily available on their mobile device, where ever they may be. At the speed that technology is advancing, it is becoming harder and harder to keep up. It seems that systems and devices are out of date before they hit the market, so as consumers, we are always one step behind.

    1. What is the INTERNET of THINGS and why is it important?
‘The Internet of Things refers to a dramatic development in the internet’s function” the idea that every object that you have is connected to the internet. It is important because it is becoming a trend more than ever and it will continue to be with no signs of stopping. If you were to ask a person how many objects they had that connected to the internet ten years ago, they would have said one or two if they were technology advanced. But now the answer will more likely be more than 4. IoT is fragmented now but in the future it would be much developed where each device can connect to each other regardless of the relationship of the two manufacturers.

    2. List some market technologies that you see around you that are part of this INTERNET of Things: Smart refrigerators, smart phones, smart printers, home security, face recognitions, smart watches (fitbit) and so much more.

The Internet of things refers to a intense, fast changing environment in the function of communication. Ecommerce, manufacturing databases and education are just some of the new and user-friendly participants of communication to the Internet. The function of the Internet has now crossed over to physical objects within our world such as, GPS systems used in vehicles. It has expanded communication for us because it is now in our reach every-where we go. The Internet is not solely at home or school but literally moves with us such as, WIFI in some vehicles. It is also able to connect to multiple physical objects such as, computer sensors, i-pods and vehicles, while holding a connection. The Internet of things is important because it can also be used efficiently within the business world. This can give managers a new opportunity in solving business issues, while only having the Internet at their finger-tips. The Internet of things can not only affect managers, but consumers as well. It allows consumers to shop with credit cards more frequently instead of carrying cash around. Now it only takes a swipe and you have purchased an item. Businesses can now run their transactions on only just an I-pad and do not need the huge, bulky computer. There are many more reasons as to why the Internet of things is beneficial and these were only a few. The Internet has provided the global community to access of information, entertainment and much MUCH more than we could ever imagine.

The Internet of Things is the network of physical objects: devices, vehicles, buildings and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity that enables these objects to collect and exchange data. The Internet of Things is important because this technology has already been bonded to our daily life. Nowadays, in each and every aspect of our life is connected through a device, or Internet. The Internet of Things does not only connect people around the world through Internet but also make our life easier and more convenient with gadgets invented by companies like Apple. The Internet of Things is also important in companies and factories. No matter what career you are in, you will need to have access to at least one device to keep track on your work and finance states. Not only it could provide us with personal conveniences but for the public as well. News is one example of sharing every individual’s point of view through the Internet.
Market technologies that I use that is part of Internet of Things are Iphone, Ipad, Macbook laptops, and software like GPS in my car.

The internet of things is everything that is connected to the internet. It goes beyond the people connected to, it also includes the physical objects that are connected as all. Increasingly more and more technology is able to communicate with other technology. This makes it easier for businesses to communicate with customers and create a more concise way for a product to be presented. For example when people want to be able to count their steps they wear a fit bit; which at a touch of the button lets them see how many steps they have walked in that day. When they connect it to their laptop, desktop, tablet, or any other computing device that enables them to track their progress from day to day. Another example is when I set a reminder on my phone and when the time comes to address it it shows up on my computer as well. Or when I get a text from someone and if I don’t look at my phone for a certain amount of time or have responded on my computer more recently it will show up on there.

The Internet of Things is the internet not only being used by humans but also being used by machines. Meaning that a machine or device will know what to do without a human having to tell it. This is important because it will allow people to be more efficient, for example when a particular piece of equipment needs maintenance a human will not have to check to see if and what needs to be fixed rather the piece of equipment will be able to self-diagnose and fix itself all without having to involve workers and taking up their time. However, this might mean that some people will no longer be needed to work and so it could replace them and put them out of a job, meaning that even though we have this great new advancement in technology that is supposed to be helping us it will actually be hindering us instead.
At my house my thermostat is hooked up to my phone and is set to a certain temperature based on the time of day and the day of the week. Meaning that it will turn its self-down based on a pre-recorded number so that I do not have to pay to heat my house for time that I am not there and I can have it warm back up to the temperature of my liking for when I arrive home.

      1. what is the Internet of Things and why does it matter?
Currently, the Internet of Things is not a second Internet, rather it’s a network of devices that are connected to the Internet that is used every day to search Google, upload images and connect with friends. It’s a network of products that are connected to the Internet, thus they have their own IP address and can connect to each other to automate simple tasks. it has already changed the way customer interact with product. The internet of things has already changed how society does things, we no longer buy albums or cassettes to listen to our music, we download the music that we like and then we can share it via the internet to our many devices to.Those that can capitalize on the advantages will only be more successful, especially if they are first movers, but others may fall behind even further than before. The internet of thing is the increased development in the internet’s function. Things that communicate with each is becoming increasingly more common and that is changing how we do things. The growing dependence on networks changes how we buy things, how we sell things and how we maintain things. For businesses and managers they will have to constantly evaluate how they do things now and try to envision how new technology will dictate how things will be done in the future. Business that are not already re-evaluating not only their business practices, but how they adapt the products they manufacture to connect to the internet of everything, will be left behind in the new age. Providing quality services will also be necessary for business to thrive in the new age. It will be imperative for business to provide services required to keep all our things connected. The internet of things has already changed how society does things, we no longer buy albums or cassettes to listen to our music, we download the music that we like and then we can share it via the internet to our many devices to listen to. We buy clothes, household products and some even buy groceries via the internet from our phones, computers and tablets. Providing quality services will also be necessary for business to thrive in the new age. It will be imperative for business to provide services required to keep all our things connected.

The Internet of things is an emerging technology that allows « smart objects » to connect to the internet and to communicate with each other. The internet of things has a lot of different implications. In the B2C market for example, it has already changed the way customer interact with products. Smart watches can be cited as an example since they can interact with your phone or other devices to provide you with all sorts of information such as your schedule of the day, your current heart rate,… Smart sensors can be embedded into the products a company sell so that is now able to gather critical information about its consumers. In the B2B market the Internet of Things is changing the way firm interact with each other. IOT can help integrate your supply chain with your buyers and suppliers and therefore increases its efficiency. Smart sensors can also be used to manage and monitor the manufacturing process and send information to the different machines in the plants when needed. This further automates your manufacturing process and therefore makes it more efficient.

It has also strategic implications for managers since most of them are or will be confronted to a business model transition from the « old » to the « new economy » which essentially means that more value will be extracted from service activities and less from manufacturing activities.

The internet of things refers to the way that the internet no longer just connects people with one another, but it connects hundreds of different devices. In my home, I am connected to the internet with my iPad, phone, laptop, Blu-Ray player, Xbox, DVR and more. The internet allows my devices to “sync” with one another and information that I put on one is accessible from the others. It is important because it gives more automation than previously available. I think it improves efficiency in the workplace, as well as in personal situations. Setting a reminder on phone, and receiving it on my computer makes it easy for me to stay on top the task I have to do.
There are lots of market technologies that are part of this. One that comes to mind off the top of my head are all the different mobile applications that are being developed for phones. McDonald’s, for example, allows people to access their coupons from their phone. Companies like Cineplex allow you to make one login and buy tickets and access your scene points from any device.

In device to device connection, we see a huge development in security technology lately. People can lock the doors of their home, view cameras in their home or place of business and even be notified when doors open, all form their phone.
In my place of work, we use the internet on our iPads to show when we are open and how busy we are. This allows customers to use their own phone or computer to see where we are and allows them to decide if they want to come use our services.

The Internet of Things is the network of physical objects, like computers, smartphones, cars, etc that collect and exchange data. This is very important, because the age of technology is fast expanding, and the internet of things only revolutionizes the way we do things. The amount of customization and flexibility that it creates is almost unreal, and sometimes you have to remind yourself that you are not living in a dream. It can literally be used anywhere, and the things where it is needed the most are: hospitals, markets, everyday customers.

(Not around me per say) Technologies that use this: smart tvs, smart fridges, smart coffee machines, cars, GPS in cars, Bottomline is, the further we progress in this day and age the harder it is to find things that do not use Internet of things.

    1. The internet of things refers to the network of the internet in which physical devices can connect and communicate with each other. It has recently seen a huge increase in connectivity among devices, and has provided new usefulness for users. Not only are computers and smart phones connected to the internet, but also items such as thermostats and even buildings are embedded with internet connectivity to include them in the internet of things. It automates many processes and provides convenience for users, and is becoming increasingly important as more and more devices and everyday items become connected together with the exchange of data.
    2. All around us, there are numerous examples of the internet of things. Some are very obvious to us, such as our smart phones, cars, apple watches, etc, but many are almost unnoticed by us as being connected to the internet. The internet of things has connected our home appliances, security home devices, thermostats, and when we venture outside the home, service technologies, and shopping conveniences such as bar code phone scanners.

The internet of things, this is the concept that “things” physical objects are now connected to the internet. There are so many devices that are all interconnected. I think that this is all very fascinating. The fact that your phone, your computer, your watch, your T.V., the pedometer in your shoes and your music player can all be connected through a virtual network is incredible. I think that this is a very important development, being able to understand or at least know that this technology is out there can make your life a lot easier, or potentially more complicated. This is a growing industry, more and more new devices are coming out that connect what you are doing or using to bigger databases. Syncing calendars between devices is one of the greatest advances in technology because now your information is always with you. One other “internet of things” technology that I find very interesting is that there are pens out there that now record your movements, you can hand write notes while at the same time they are digitized. This shows that things as simple as pens to as big as cars are all part of this huge concept. The amount of information out there is so broad that I think almost anything and everything, one day will be connected to the internet.

    1. What is the INTERNET of THINGS and why is it important?
The internet of things refers not only to the interconnectedness of people and devices, but also the networks of devices connected together. In the Internet of Things, every object is becoming a technical device, whether it be a vehicle, building, or a fridge. The Internet of Things is important because it presents a massive opportunity for the further development of technology. It is much easier to sell something that people use and need, rather than trying to sell a completely new object. With this, the Internet of Things complements existing devices with today’s technology. The convenience of syncing together multiple devices is very appealing to people and businesses. Given its potential, the Internet of Things is very important.

Perhaps one of the most used Internet of Things technologies today is bluetooth audio. Bluetooth allows me to connect my phone to speaker devices within my area to play music. All at once I can stream music from an online music provider and play it on a speaker system without even hooking up a cord. Another example of such a technology is a FitBit. A FitBit tracks a person’s movements and sleep patterns within a day, and uses a database to compile information on the person’s current health.

The internet of things describes the utilization of the internet in everyday objects–clothing, refrigerators, even in a soccer ball. For me it is a really incredible breakthrough technologically because it allows for the automation of menial tasks that would otherwise take up a lot of our time. Take a smart exercise shirt for example–it can monitor your heart rate, perspiration, speed, and breathing while you go for a run. This allows you to make adjustments to your exercise program and monitor your physical progress as you work out. In sports, smart wearables can track the movement of players and send data to coaches to establish patterns in their team’s behavior. There are so many objects that can be potentially improved and enhanced with the Internet of Things, and I think it is an important step forward in every aspect of life–including business. Things like smartwatches and smart phones are paving the way for more innovative technologies that I’m sure will end up in our schools, workplaces, and homes in the near future.

The Internet of things is a dramatic development where by Internet functions as a physical object which has an ability to communicate between each other. The Internet has an ability to connect all devices using the Internet protocol. The idea of the Internet is to help us connect to the real world and also know what’s going on in the world. It is important because it could be used in cases such as connecting to networks and having an easy access to phones and computers. This technology is absolutely a very good thing because in the nearest future we will be able to connect to a lot of things which automates many processes and gives free access to various users.

There are so many things that market technology has affected in our society today. Eg; thermostats in our home, how we are able to control the heater using an automated electronic device and also having to use our phones as a gps which is also a very good development.

    1. The Internet of Things refers to the expansion of the internet and its ability to bring not only people together, but also physical objects. This can be particularly important in the business world because if companies can take advantage of the ever-growing trend towards networking physical objects, it can lead to larger margins and competitive advantages in terms of business strategies. Creating ‘smart’ products and or adding ‘smart’ aspects to services can lead to great deal of differentiation while adding value in the customers’ eyes. By margining the virtual and physical world, we can incorporate these technologies into our workplace in order to increase efficiency. The increasingly large amount of devices (approximately six billion in 2015) that are connected by the Internet poses a challenge for businesses as well. If organizations are already struggling to keep up to date on the latest technology, the Internet of Things will only create more of a struggle for said companies. Those that can capitalize on the advantages will only be more successful, especially if they are first movers, but others may fall behind even further than before. Overall, those that are successful will be able to save time and money in the long run once their devices are installed, running, and adapted to.
    2. The Internet of Things will soon include any tangible thing that one could imagine. From appliances, to watches and handheld devices, we are constantly surrounded by examples of objects that are connected to a network. The Internet of Things has been transforming our healthcare systems, transportation systems, manufacturing systems, home automation systems and the list continues. Smart phones and access to cloud computing allows businesses to gain more of an understanding on their customers. Disney and their introduction of magic bands are perfect examples of this.

The Internet of Things is a network that connects physical objects, such as cars, building, appliances, electronic devices, etc. This network enables these objects to exchange data and communicate with each other. This is important because every day more and more objects are using this network; over 6 billion objects have access to this network according to the article. This network has a massive impact on our lives whether we realize it or not. The city recently installed electronic speed signs and sensors onto Whoop Up drive. The sensors monitor the temperature and weather conditions on the bridge. The data collected from these sensors is then analyzed and from there the decision to whether or not to lower the speed limit can be made to increase everyone’s safety. The Internet of Things will also have a huge impact on my career as a marketer in the future. By using this network, an enormous amount of information can be gathered on every individual. This data can then be analyzed and used to effectively target everyone individually and even in groups.

    – What is the internet of things?
The Internet of things is an interconnected network that allows devices to communicate to one another and be efficient as possible. Each individual device needs to be connected to the internet in order to be functional. These devices can be everyday items that are transformed to meet the “new economy” that have a technical aspect which allows then to be more efficient. The devices will be personalized to meet the needs of the individual consumer’s preference. Doing so will allow marketers to understand their target market’s needs and wants, allowing them to offer more effective promotions and gadgets to the consumer. These “things” can rang from anywhere, from your tv to your refrigerator. Then you could tell your tv to communicate to your refrigerator to drop a degree to cool down your milk to perfect drinking temperature. To be able to compete in the “new economy” producers will have to adapt to the new style of product which will cause a huge shake- up in the industrial word. Firm wills have to invests mass amounts of money into research and development to just to be able to understand the technology change, and then have to compete against various other competitors in their market place.

You wouldn’t see these things 15 years ago and they are only continuing to be more innovative. For example, there are microwaves that have “sensor reheat” that senses the temperature of your food and automatically stops when it feels like it has reached the desired temperature.

The Internet of Things refers to objects being turned into devices that are connected to the internet. This could be a fridge, a car, a bed, etc. These new device are becoming more and more popular and according to analysts will soon be the new way of the world. These devices will be able to learn and adapt to preferences and send information to each other. Imagine a light switch in your bedroom sending a signal to turn on a heat lamp in your bathroom to prepare for your morning shower. It seems like a far off idea but many of these ideas can already be put into practice and are just not yet mainstream. This Internet of Things will completely change the way the world and business world work. Producers right now need to jump on this bandwagon if they want to be able to compete in the near future. And they need to make these changes in a timely manner if they want to be able to save their market share. An example that we are starting to see around us is smart fridges that learn what you like to have in your fridge and can create a grocery list when things start to run low. I’m sure soon they will be able to send this list to your phone and notify you when you are close to a grocery store that has all the items. Maybe even tell you how much it will cost to buy everything on your list. The possibilities are really endless once all the device of the world are connected.

The internet of things refers to the growing connectivity among users of the internet, ultimately, the internet of things expands the usability of the internet, creating a major pathway for innovation. As this connectivity grows, the planet will work more and more as a unit, where everyone is aware of what is happening around them and can make contributions to it. However, some see a future where the concept of internet of things can go to far – creating a situation where invasion of privacy becomes increasingly easier and easier.
Wearable technology is a popular application of the internet of things. As an example, technology such as the FitBit, or the Apple Watch, are many ways corporations are using Internet of things as a means of making profit. As an example, with the Fitbit, users can now track their fitness workouts, and even share their progress among social media. In general, I believe the development of the internet of things is going to prove to be a life changer in society – especially within the next decade.

#1: The internet of things is the idea of mainly linking any device with an on and off button to the Internet and/or to each other. This consist of everything from cellphones, coffee machines, washing machines, lights, headphones, wearable devices and practically whatever else you can think of. The idea of control and making one’s life easier in the internet of things. Why this would be important is because the idea that whatever that can be connected, will be connected. Think about your daily activities, brushing your teeth and combing your hair may not be as mundane a task any more. We potentially could connect your tooth brush and your comb to the internet so that you can read how healthy your teeth are and how healthy your hair is and send yourself a grocery list about what you need to eat in your diet to make yourself healthier. Cars are driving themselves, your thermostat is learning, your clothes are not being made by hand, the world is changing and this is going to impact us positively and negatively. Positively by making our lives easier and monitor our health more closely. Negatively by intruding on sensitive information about ourselves and giving it to anyone who has access to the internet and a computer.

It is important because more and more technology is using the IoE. For us management students we need to be aware of this innovation to be successful to the marketplace. IoE has the ability to make our lives run more smoothly so we can work efficiently and effectively to keep up with our competitors. An example of this may be that when your alarm clock goes off, your coffee pot starts brewing and your dog’s food bowl dispenses food. This innovations throughout the day will make society much more efficient. When my dad enters his car it notifies him when his phone isn’t in a certain radius, this has saved him a hand full of times from forgetting his phone when he has needed. With how fast technology in society improves it is not acceptable to be a lagger.

    1. What is the INTERNET of THINGS and why is it important?

The Internet of Things is the dramatic development within the Internet, and all the purposes the Internet serves. It is important because soon billions of people will be connected and have access to the Internet, and even more billions of devices will be linked to it. Soon enough the entire world will be one big connected global system. The Internet of things also refers to physical objects being able to communicate with each other without a mediator instructing them.

    2. List some market technologies that you see around you that are part of this INTERNET of Things

One of the market technologies I was recently exposed to was an OnStar application by Chevrolet, as well as General Motors. This app allows owners of a Chevrolet vehicle with the appropriate technology to start their car, stop the engine, sound the alarm, communicate with OnStar, request service, and more all from their phone. Which I thought the craziest part was that I could start my car from my phone no matter how far away as it starts via a cell signal, which is helpful for when your remote is out of range in the winter time and you would like to come out to a warm car, you are able to start it from in class, at work, etc.

    1) The internet of things is a dramatic development in the internets functions. It refers to physical objects that are connected to the internet and then all other physical objects. It is important because so many businesses and companies, etc, rely on technology. It helps make lives more efficient and helps us keep up in the world and technology and the internet are such major factors in everything and worldwide. It is a major factor in how industries operate and succeed in todays society and working part. These concepts and technology are also a big factor for individuals because it can affect their daily live for things around their home, such as security systems, their work, things for kids in their homes, etc..

    2) In todays world we see so much technology and there is always something new and technology evolves like crazy, it’s hard to keep up. For example things around the market like iPhones and siri. Things around the house like appliances, vehicle technology, apps. Technology is always growing and improving and everything in the market is about technology and ‘the next best thing’. Technology and things that we have in society help to make our individual, family, work and school lives much easier and more efficient.

    1. What is the INTERNET of THINGS and why is it important?
The Internet of Things refers to a dramatic development in the internet’s function: the fact that, even more than among people, it now enables communication among physical objects. Essential with the internet of things it regards the connection of technology making it global. Having already be in 75% of the world, the technology will only grow. Growing expansion of technology in developing countries will only help the world sustain economic growth, as people that have not had access to devices/internet before, have been missing out on so much information and will then become more educated and intelligent.
    2. List some market technologies that you see around you that are part of this INTERNET of Things.
In today’s world there are lots of different technologies that we encounter every day in Canada. Everyday it seems like someone has the “next best thing” from watches to phones to iPods,it seems like a never-ending cycle of new technology being promoted. As per Blake’s post, I had never even heard of a smart dryer or washer before. This is an example of exactly with I said earlier. The internet of things enhances everyone learning skills and results in new and improved pieces of techonolgy.

    1) Internet of things is in reference to how the internet has developed to include many functions that we can now access at the ease of a click. It is important because the web is getting larger and larger and more people are becoming users everyday so by having the internet of things it helps to connect us to the rest of the world. The internet of everything is well everywhere so its important to maintaining a relationship for sales between consumers and retailers, and communication with global partners. Its also important for personal use, we can do research for papers, follow our favourite celebrities and keep in touch with friends all over the world.
    2) Some common technology that is apart of the internet of things would include items like the apple watch, iPhone, smartphones, tablets, laptops, smart tv’s and so on. From the article they state items like car2go which if you’re in Calgary is a common sight. We are also now seeing smart appliances and those would also be included here.

The Internet of things is the collection of physical objects and devices that contain electronic components that allow them to connect with computers, and collect/exchange information seamlessly. This technology is important because it is currently emerging at an exponential rate, and while its very helpful, poses some issues as well. The main issue with these technologies is the potential invasion of privacy that companies have the potential to engage in. These devices can easily track our movements, record our speech, and collect countless sensitive data on us. This is potentially dangerous and unsettling for many individuals. That being said, this technology is also extremely useful in making us more productive and efficient in our lives. One technology in the market that I have seen increasing marketing materials in the media for is Fit Bit. This technology is focused on athleticism and health and consists of a bracelet and application that measure things like calories burned, heart rate, and daily activity statistics. This bracelet connects wirelessly with your smartphone in order to transmit and collect data in real time about your movements. This kind of wearable athletic technology is an emerging sector in the Internet of things and has countless applications in professional sports, medicine, and personal use.

    1. What is the INTERNET of THINGS and why is it important?
The internet of things is a dramatic development of internet functions that not only will increase communication through people in social networks or other uses, but will also now allow physical objects to be able to communicate as well. This is exciting and scary at the same time. Objects before that had no other meaning accept for to do their function, will now kind of have a mind of their own in a way because they will be able to communicate by being networked and actually being intelligent. Like in the example for engineers, a machine that requires maintenance or has a problem will then be able to tell somebody on its own what problems are occurring and possibly how to fix it. This is much different from the past or even right now. Before when there was a problem it would take manual looking or understanding that there was a problem and then a person would have to come in to fix the machine. Now, not only can the machine recognize the problem, it may be able to fix it on its own and not need someone else to do that. Having these technologies come in is a struggle for traditional companies because the new models of everything impact product management, production, and sales planning. With all of these technologies, so much more new things must be evolved in a business to keep up with the pace of technologies. So a business basically much change its entire way of doing things to keep up with the new technology if it decides to implement it. With all these technologies, businesses are no longer only competing with their own category of business any longer, they are competing with everyone. Like they were saying in the example, a coffee company is no longer only worried about other coffee companies, it must now become aware of all companies in this “blue ocean”.

    1. What is the INTERNET of THINGS and why is it important?
The internet of things connects physical objects using electronic sensors and the internet. In other words, physical objects are connected to each other by a wireless network. The INTERNET of THINGS is important because it allows for faster transfer of information without the physical contact of humans. This saves human workers time on tasks that can be utilized in other areas. The time saved and utilized in another area contributes to individuals being more efficient and effective on important tasks, which require attention to detail. As a result, productivity can be increased. The efficient and effective management of time is very important whether applied to an individual’s personal or professional life.
From a stay at home mom to a manager of a large manufacturing plant, the importance of the Internet of Things impacts many from all walks of life. Home owners value security systems that automatically turn their house alarm on when it senses that the owners are way from the property due to a wireless signal communicated from the owner’s mobile phone, car or watch transmitted away from the property. With the Internet of Things, the homeowner’s phone or watch can send a wireless signal to the home alarm system indicating that the family is away from the property and the alarm is set. Automatic updates regarding the property can also be sent to the owners, in particular, strange or unusual activity. Also, if an attempt to break in occurs, a wireless alarm can be communicated to the owners, neighboring police, and the security company. For security and safety of a family away from home, the INTERNET OF THINGS is important.

    1. What is the INTERNET of THINGS and why is it important?
The internet of Things is the connection between physical objects and the internet. It’s the development of the internet to allow non common objects to store data and connect to us like never before. It is creating this vast network and connecting everybody together. With this technology, the possibilities are endless. Our society is very quickly turning into a digital/internet dependent life, and these new technologies and process allow us to be adapting to our fullest.

There are so many Internet of Things aspects just within our smartphones alone! The ability to link your GPS on your phone to your car and have your car provide you with the information. The ability to lock, arm, turn off lights .ect to your home from a push of a button on your smartphone. The GPS that is always running through your phone, and can tell certain services exactly where you are.Even the new water dispensers, and how they are programmed to notify someone when their filter quality is getting to low. Car’s are so strongly affected by the internet of things, they are pretty much driving themselves!

The internet of things is the connection not only of people but also of their devices. These devices include smart phones, computers, laptops, tablets, and are connected through the internet all over the world. The internet of things has become increasingly prevalent lately, as the cost of devices falls and new markets are able to afford to become connected. The internet of things is colliding with the old way of doing business and there is some concern that this could cause some problems. I think this concern is misplaced. The new and old ways are going to be co-dependent in my opinion, as traditional business practices will be necessary to correctly use the new business intelligence at our finger tips.
One of the main ways I have noticed this internet of things is in the advertisements I receive while on the web. Ads will pop up on the side of the screen for local Lethbridge businesses, and these ads will change to reflect whatever city I am in. Clearly, my laptop is connecting with ad generating technology, which is what the internet of things is all about; I did not connect, it was two technologies connecting with each other on their own. I think this type of connectivity is inevitable, and becoming increasingly unavoidable.

    1. What is the INTERNET of THINGS and why is it important?
The internet of things is the connection of physical objects to the internet, and the communication between these physical objects. It is important because it is the key to how many industries operate in today’s technology driven society. Many businesses rely on the internet of things because it allows them to operate at a much higher level of productivity compared to those who don’t. This concept is also a key element for individuals because each of their devices whether that be their security system, thermostat in their house, or businesses is connected so that they can be alerted if there are any changes.
    2. List some market technologies that you see around you that are part of this INTERNET of Things
There are many market technologies that come to mind when thinking about the internet of things. For example with iPhones always evolving, Siri is able to connect the user to almost anything whether that be the nearest gas station, or the highlights of the latest sports game. iPhones allow users to download apps that they can use to track steps, calories, online shop/ shipments, and much more. Home appliances have evolved into using the internet of things such as thermostats and smart fridges. Smartphones also use the internet of things for accessing people’s personal banking information to conduct online transactions and bill payments. The list goes on and on. This concept will always be evolving.

    1. What is the INTERNET of THINGS and why is it important?
-The internet of things refers to the development of the internet. It enables communication among physical objects. It is important because every more and more people gain access to the internet. And not only are more people getting connection to the internet but also more objects are, for example, cars now have wifi built in so that a person can connect to the internet with their handheld device at all devices. The Internet of Things increases the efficiency of everyday life. By having everything connected, you can have everything in your life integrated. As soon as something important happens, you can be alerted. But with every great thing, there is always a drawback. The Internet of Things may be too much. There is already many comparisons of people being slaves to technology. The Internet of Things speaks of a future where technology will have an even greater effect on our lives. Sometimes too much of a great thing can be detrimental, and the Internet of Things might be getting near that threshold.

-Basically anything that is titled “smart” minus newly introduced water company called Smart Water. From smartphones to smart thermostats to smart homes, they are all interconnected through the internet and they make life easier. As a former employee of Vivint, a leading company in Smart Home Systems, I can tell you that there is an abundance of benefits from having a smart home.

    1. What is the INTERNET of THINGS and why is it important?

The internet of things is how many more items in our day-to-day life are now connected to the internet all the time. Rather than just computer and smart phones being connected to the internet, items like thermostats and refrigerators are now connected as well. This now gives them more usefulness past there original uses. This added value enables companies to add more service and in turn charge the consumers more without having to spend much more to offer the service. As well software companies are now working with hardware companies doing what they both do best to help the consumer more. I believe the future of technology lies within the technology of things. More and more devices will be connected at all times making many things a lot more convenient that they have ever been.

    2. List some market technologies that you see around you that are part of this INTERNET of Things

it is getting difficult to find devices that I could currently own that are not connected to the internet. Getting kitchen appliances that are not connected are now a lot more of a rarity that they have ever been. Connected thermostats and smoke detectors to let you know when to turn up the heat or change the battery are being given out standard by heating companies. New vehicles now are always connected tell you when you need to change your oil, with newer models booking the appointment for you. Companies like Amazon are partnering with tons of brands to give you things like washing machines that automatically order detergent and printers that order ink when they are running low. While these things are all great I cannot afford any while I am a student.

    1. What is the INTERNET of THINGS and why is it important?

The internet already successfully provides communication between physical object, and the of things is internet goes even further calling it the internet of the next generation that dramatic increases the percentage of the population of up to 75 percent of the world and 6 billion devices connected to the internet such as computer networks, actuators, sensors all coming together to dramatically change our lives. It is the fast direction this world is heading and managers need to keep up to remain competitive.

    2. List some market technologies that you see around you that are part of this INTERNET of Things

There are several technologies surrounding us all that take part of the internet of things. Most people have ipods or purchase music on itunes, cars are being fitted with sensors to park themselves of automatically turn on/off high beams. Some cars are even taking part in apps and touch screens for buyers and being equipped with wifi. There’s mobility app services such as “myTaxi” or “car2go.” The internet and technologies surrounds us everywhere you go. Its hard to escape it even if you wanted to.

I personally feel like the computers and technology is great, however companies are continuously trying to think of innovative ways to make things better by adding so much unnecessary things that are becoming more of a nuisance then anything. For example I have rented many cars with touch screens, and if I don’t hit the warning okay on the touch screen before I drive I can’t use it, so I am unable to turn the volume down or the heat. Also if I don’t want to do something simple such as turn down the volume or heat instead of simply turning a knob I have to press several different touch screens to get to the place I want and to add to insult if I’m wearing mittens some of the touch screens can’t even register I’m touching it. It also has an annoying glow if in night display while you drive which is also kind of dangerous.

    – The “Internet of Things” is the network of physical objects that enables these objects to collect and exchange data. These objects include devices, vehicles, buildings and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity. The “Internet of Things” is a dramatic change where multiple physical objects are connected to one another. Due to its importance in day to day life, it is best to try and learn the new technology. The potential of this technology is quite significant as it automates many processes and provides a sense of ease to the users. It is not without its faults as it continues to grow and evolve at a quickening pace. Those who fail to adapt will only fall behind and out of favor.

    2. List some market technologies that you see around you that are part of this Internet of Things.
    – There are many devices that are part of the “Internet of Things” ranging from computers to watches to cars. Even thermostats, household appliances, and other electronic devices are becoming “smarter” with the access to the internet. Many electronic devices are now able to communicate with one another in an attempt to make things easier for the user though results vary from person to person. Furthermore, several devices nowadays are able to be controlled by smartphones which also continues the attempt to make the lives of their users easier regardless if they want it or not.

The internet of things refers to the physical objects that are connected to the internet and, therefore to all other physical objects. This is important in a sense that the internet of things connects things to a network and will be easily accessible, through the use of smartphones in the future it is said that by 2020 over 50 billion items will be connected and through the connection comes the transparency of use, ease of access to materials and data and an overall new market in regard to the internet.

      2. List some market technologies that you see around you that are part of this Internet of Things.
There are so many things that market technologies have affected its not even funny. In todays society almost everything you see is part of the internet or connected in somehow some way. From cars to GPS to work equipment all the way to video game accessories and household cleaning and appliances. The largest thing I have noticed personally is with mobile cellphones. How fast and how far they have come is ridiculous and without the knowledge sharing over the internet they probably would have never became so advanced in the first place

    1. The Internet of Things is a dramatic development of the function of the internet where now physical objects have the ability to communication among each other. The Internet of Things is important to learn about and try to understand because it is the future of this planet. The idea of a global system of interconnect computer networks, sensors, actuators, and devices all using the internet protocol holds so much potential to change our lives. This sounds like a great concept but can we as humans adapt fast enough to the change? I think a lot of us underestimated how fast technology can evolve and it is only going to happen faster. If you are not prepared for these changes you could get left behind.
    2. Well the invention of smart thermostats people can now control the temperatures of their homes and hot water settings through an app they have installed on their smartphones. Because it is a smart thermostat it monitors the user’s habits and will learn to adjust on its own to fit the users’ preference. My parents got a security system installed in their home and they can control the alarm, lock the house, and see who is walking up the house with the use of an app installed on their smartphones as well. Now they do not have to worry about carrying a spare key with them as they can just fire up the app and open the garage with the tap of their finger. The evolution of self-driving cars is on its way. Apple kick started the market and got consumers interested in self-driving cars and now some big car companies are following pursuit. Although the car companies like Mercedes are still in prototyping stage in the next 10 years we are going to be seeing self-driving cars in different countries across the world.

    1. The internet of things is a dramatic development in the Internets functions like for example it can communicate among physical objects. The internet is able to connect to computers sensors and devices using internet protocol. The internet of things in basic terms is some object that has network connectivity allowing it to send and receive data in everyday life. This is important because it could be used in situations of life an death like at a hospital with connected devices. The data collected from those devices outputs information on the status of patients and runs analytic on the various monitoring machine, helping the hospital to run as optimally as possible.
    2.
Some things that people see day to day internet of things examples can fall into a few categories such as wearable technology like for example the apple watch that is connected to a network where ever you go. Things at your home such as the appliances or smart home technologies like a smart thermostat and appliances like smart fridge or washer and dryer. All of these things that we see each day are objects that apply to the internet of things that can help make our lives easier buy for example our fridge telling us what we are running low on and need to pick up while at the store.
